Getting rid of addictions is one of the hardest things to do. Trying to avoid and forget it is almost impossible.
As a music lover, I can't start or even finish a day without music. Everywhere I go its as if I demand sound to be heard. Well, I know some of you understand me. It is my way to express myself, and I love it!!
Since I think everything should be specific, I want to dig down deep the music I really like, the genres and of course the artists behind these songs.
When it comes to genres of music, I am indeed a fan of POWER BALLAD ( because I think, here in the Philippines this genre is most used by different artists. So, this is the genre I grow with). POP ROCK ( I just want to hear loud sounds with emotions sprinkled in it) JAZZ ( I love the slow vibes). GOSPEL ( it has profound meaning to me that I can not explain).
With all these genres, I can say that before I attached to them; my fave artists introduced them first to me. (just like what I have told you about the power ballad I lived with here in the Philippines) and these artists I will show are the roots of how I become a music addict.
1) Charice Pempengco- I think all of us know who this powerhouse singer is. She is one of the biggest breakthroughs I admire. With her impeccable vocals that can reach all the high notes of the song, its not hard to be in loved with her. One of the reasons I like her is because of her humble beginning. She was just like a simple girl that later blew away every creature in this planet. Every time she hit the stage with her revival of Whitney, Celine and her own songs, it gives me chills!! that's how powerful her voice is!!
This one is one of my favorite performances of her. With the G#5 notes she hit here, it is impossible not to say she really is talented. Besides, she can control her voice which is really important for the singers. She knows when to stop and she knows when to punch I like her so much!!!
As long as you're there by Charice is my most favorite performance of her on glee. I think it's kinda obvious but I love how she started it with soft low notes and reach those crazy high notes in the middle of the song up to its ending. It gives me GOOSEBUMPS whenever I watch it. AWESOME!
In fact, I am a fan of almost every song she sings. These two performances are just small pieces of different performances I love from her as a whole!! That's how great she is!!
2) Adam Lambert- who does not about this man! Adam joined the 8th season of American Idol where he gained runner-up of Kris Allen. I really can't believe why he lost the title but as much as I know he was the most current and talented singer of the season. He wasn't just taking a song and simply sing it, he put her own spin to the song with the dark, rock vibes and huge vocals. Adam knew exactly how to win the judges and the audience with his amazing rendition of the songs. He was also the first contender to earn standing ovation from the judges. Imagine for past seven seasons of the show, he was the only man who garnered this recognition specially from Simon Cowell. This make him special for me!
This is what i'm talking about. The best performance ever on idol stage for me. I like the way he execute the song with simple yet interesting background. This is the real definition of the show. Choosing song and sing it the way you want it with your own style. That's how he did it. Singing low notes in the beginning, C5 note in the middle and falsetto in the end. FANTASTIC!
Adam Lambert's A Change Is Gonna Come .One of his astonishing performances on idol. I love every song Adam sang on idol but what I like about this performance is that he showcased his vocal capability with an inspiring song. Just like what Kara said, this performance is the combination of the high notes and how he pulled it back. He picked a song that would show who really he is as an artist. A Glam rocker that can sing emotional songs. This is EPIC!
In addition, Adam did great rendition of Michael Jackson's Black or White, Bee Gees' If I Can't Have You, Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love and others. The real PERFORMER!
3) Haley Reinhart- when it comes to originality, Haley is the first one comes into my mind. Haley Reinhart landed as 3rd place in American Idol just like Adam(runner-up). What I love about her is that she can sing whatever she wants with jazz in it. And that is how I was introduced with the genre. From the moment I saw her doing this jazz thing, I rooted for her to get the American Idol title. She also got the most no. of standing ovation from the new judges then. When she do the growl and scatting, she steals the moment. I almost love all her performances on Idol. Pop Jazz with blues is who she is!!
This is the best rendition of the song I have ever heard. Her raspy voice with growling make this performance extra ordinary. Haley's own style is apparently shown. The sexiness, the attitude and the emotion added up, contributed to it's outstanding outcome.
When I heard that she would sing I Who Have Nothing I never thought it would be one of her greatest but hell yeah it was! Once again, she managed to insert her own spin to the song , full of emotions and with her any-song-can-sing vocals that made her a super star of the season. This performance is her different side that makes her EXCITING!!
Have you already heard her new single (FREE)?? well, you should listen to that, it is the best of the bestest!!
4) Joshua Ledet- even if he's still fighting for the crown to be the next American Idol, this 20-year old gospel singer impressed me with his style. He is one of the unforgettable contestants of this season's show. What I love about Joshua is his humility. He is humble enough to take everything in the show. Aside from that, is his vocals. This man is a force to be reckoned with. With his song choices and execution of these songs, I think even the aliens would give him a standing ovation. That's how talented he is.
If You Don't Know Me By Now by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes is I think the perfect song for Joshua Ledet. For a reason that he has huge voice, it is best to give him a big shoes to fill. He took the song with conviction and perform it effortlessly. IMPRESSIVE!
I can say that this performance of him should be his inspiration in creating his album after American Idol. Why? because I think it is him. He is a gospel singer that can sing any song and brought it beyond everyone's expectations. Every song he sings is amazing. Just like what Jennifer Lopez said he is PHENOM!
I hope he'll win the title. GOD BLESS!!!
By the way, Adam Lambert, Haley Reinhart and Joshua Ledet have similarities. Guess what!!
